Command blocks in exported files Optional #
Chain extra steps onto an export
An export can be re-read after generation to act on command blocks embedded by its style sheet, chaining further processing instructions into the output document.
XML Central is part of Cloud & Connected Systems in Windward System Five. System Five includes 9 documented capabilities here — all 9 in the standard set. Trades that lean on it include Industrial Supplies, Auto & Truck Parts Sales & Service.
These 9 capabilities sit within System Five's 1287-capability documented set — a selection, not a ceiling.
Chain extra steps onto an export
An export can be re-read after generation to act on command blocks embedded by its style sheet, chaining further processing instructions into the output document.
Get data in and out without custom code
A supervisor-level utility defines named import and export routines against nominated sections of the database, each with its own file type, options, style sheets and delivery method, saved and re-runnable by name.
Check the export actually worked
A results tab records what happened during each export run for review and troubleshooting, and inventory measurement values are carried through into the output file when present.
Export any screen to a spreadsheet
Any grid can be exported as XML in addition to CSV and Excel, with a grid information window that shows the underlying column structure so an export can be mapped accurately.
Import whatever file the supplier sends
Imports accept XML, CSV, tab-delimited, pipe-delimited, any custom delimiter, and Excel workbooks, with UTF-8 multi-byte support. Delimited files are converted internally to a row and column XML structure, and the intermediate and transformed documents can be dumped to disk to verify the mapping.
Stop exports overwriting each other
Export filenames accept substitution tokens for user, machine, a unique value and the temp folder, creating a separate folder or filename per user or terminal so concurrent exports do not overwrite each other.
Export any grid or record on demand
Exports are defined as grid exports, record exports or existing-document exports. Grid exports appear on the right-click menu of any grid in the system, record exports run from the export button on a record such as a customer, and existing exports process a generated page into a final output.
Update records instead of duplicating them
A matchduplicate command block names the fields used to find an existing record, so an import updates rather than duplicates. Contacts match on named fields such as first and last name, inventory matches on item, part, supplier, supplier part or category, and alternate supplier records match on part, preferred flag and file number.
Shape exports into the layout required
A per-record XSL style sheet transforms each record as it is generated, and separate header and footer files top and tail the output, so the same data can be written as CSV, HTML or any other required layout. Style sheets can be tested for validity before use, and Windward will build them to order.
